Keeping yourself entertained

Sometimes work can seem a little humdrum. After a while the humdrum can become a bit of a weight. In the middle of a big piece of work you can actually feel quite low. It’s not that there’s anything really making you unhappy, it’s just that this tunnel you are in is a bit long, and it’s a while since you have found something to lighten your heart.

When I was a school in the previous century, we wrote essays with pen on paper. I remember getting hold of coloured pens and underlining titles with coloured pen or even writing titles in coloured pen. The teacher might not have been happy (especially with a yellow title, which was hard to read) but it was a way of bringing a little light relief into the black and white task of a longish project.

Even now as an older professional, I still have to find the opportunity to lighten up. I may be in a long tunnel of a project, but that doesn’t mean I can’t take a break to find something bright or amusing. No, I’m not going to mess with serious documents but there can be other ways to lighten up.

Lightness in the workplace

Now we are homeworking, we miss that kind of fun and banter that provides the lightness in the workplace. I needed a fun way to tell the family whether they can interrupt me in my office. I have created these avatars for myself. One of them is always showing on my door.

You can disturb me, or don’t disturb me! I’m expecting it to be obvious which is which.

What have you done to keep yourself entertained?

Go blossom!
