Often children are asked: What do you want to be when you grow up?
And the replies are often well-known vocational professions such as, doctor, or nurse or fireman or actor or singer. But maybe the more appropriate form of being is a personal attribute.
Personal attribute
For example, I want to be kind or popular. I want to be wise or strong. I want to be a winner or a leader. I want to be the greatest or the most helpful. I want to be calm or peaceful. I want to be fast or agile.
When you get older it actually makes sense to look back over your career path and you may notice that a pattern emerges of what you always really wanted to be. You may find that your behaviour at work is subconsciously driving your thoughts words actions and decisions according to your inner wishes.
You may find that you’re not always kind, but you have found wisdom. You may not always be right, but you are popular. You may not be the calmest person, but you are a winner, etc.
Express your true calling
Success or failure may not be measured in job title or material goods, but actually how well you have found ways to express your true calling as the best version of the person you wanted to be.
